This morning Melinda's respiratory therapist removed the ventilator to see how Melinda would respond. Melinda was off the ventilator for almost 3 hours and breathing on her own. This is great news! She had no problems and handled it well. The respiratory therapist will only try this a few times a day so Melinda does not get tired and struggle with her breathing. Melinda's heart rate continues to stay high but is kept controlled by medicine. This afternoon the nurse informed us that Melinda is being weaned off of her pain medicine. The nurse said when she is completely weaned she will be very agitated. Tomorrow will be a big day for Melinda. Melinda's family is anxious to see her beautiful eyes open.
